Why I Actually Hope It Rains on Your Florida Wedding Day

Look, I get it. I really do. Dealing with rain on your Florida wedding day is the thing. It’s the nightmare scenario. You’re refreshing the weather app every five seconds, staring at the radar, just praying for that bright blue sky.

But can I be honest for a second? Like, actually honest?

As the guy behind the camera, I’m kinda secretly hoping it clouds over. Maybe even rains a little.

I know that sounds insane. Your mom probably hates that I’m even saying this. But hear me out, because that “perfect sunny day” everyone dreams about? It’s actually a nightmare for video. It’s brutal.

Here is why a little bit of bad weather is actually a good thing.

The Sun is Kind of the Enemy

We need to talk about the sun. Everyone thinks “Sun = Happy Photos,” but technically? It’s unforgiving.

When you have that blasting, high-noon Florida sun with zero clouds, here is what’s actually happening:

  • Raccoon Eyes: The sun is straight overhead, so your eyebrows cast these deep, dark shadows over your eyes. It looks… well, not great.

  • The Squint: You’re trying to look romantic and say your vows, but you’re just squinting the whole time because it’s so bright.

  • The Sweat: It’s Florida. Direct sun means you are melting before the ceremony even starts.

I see it constantly. Couples want the “sunny beach look,” but they end up looking uncomfortable and washed out. (And don’t get me started on what it does to the color of the ocean—it just blows everything out).

Clouds Are Nature’s Cheat Code

This is the videographer nerd coming out in me, but clouds are the best thing that can happen to you.

Think of it like this—in a studio, we pay a lot of money for “softboxes” to make light look good. Well, a cloudy day? That is literally a giant, free softbox in the sky.

When you have rain on your Florida wedding day (or just the clouds that come with it), the light gets soft. It wraps around you. Suddenly, your skin looks smooth, nobody is squinting, and the colors actually pop. It’s moody. It’s cinematic.

It looks like a movie, not a home video. And isn’t that why you hired me?

Embrace the Mess (It’s Better)

Plus, rain adds texture. Wet pavement looks cool at night, and raindrops on the leaves give the video a vibe you just can’t get when it’s dry and dusty.

“Rain on your wedding day is considered good luck… It signifies that your marriage will last. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie.”

– The Knot https://www.theknot.com/content/wedding-superstitions-and-folklore

Honestly? The best shots I get are when things go “wrong” and the couple just rolls with it. They grab an umbrella, they huddle close together, they laugh. That is real. That is the stuff you want to watch in 20 years.

“The best thing a bride can do is embrace the weather. If you are having fun, the photos [and video] will be amazing, regardless of the rain.”

– Brides Magazine

I’ve Got You Covered

So, seriously—stop stressing the weather app. Put it away.

If it rains, we have gear for that. We know how to handle it. And I know the lighting is going to look incredible anyway. Just trust the process (and the clouds).

If you want a videographer who isn’t scared of a little weather and knows how to make it look epic, we should talk.
